myWorkDay UI

Project Overview

Design a workday application called MyWorkday that lets you track how you spend your workday. The app can calculate how many minutes you spend answering e-mails, talking on phone calls, collaborating with coworkers, and walking to meetings. The app will then give you an end-of-day review of your workday.

Summary

Create a png file for the mock-application chosen. Application with data visualization shown. This should be the completed png file that includes the initial mock-up along with the data visualization graphic. Lastly, Prepare the user interface artwork using the following dimensions for a smartphone (640x960).

Design Process

One of the critical elements of this app is to ensure that myWorkDay is user-friendly, meaning, much like reading a book, the layout and organization must be presented in an F-shaped and Z-shaped pattern. Each work day or session is categorized by date to ensure that user confusion is avoided and prevented. Furthermore, myWorkDay's menu system is found at the bottom of the interface, and each icon must be large enough to avoid any frustrations from the user for accidentally selecting a category. Fonts and typography and shadows were also considered during the design to make sure that each word is seen and read. Once the individual creates a new session, the app displays a menu of everyday activities during work hours. Each event is also color-coded, which the user can opt to change, for the pie chart data after the day ends. When selecting a specific session, each activity is presented in a pie chart and users can select a category to look at the minutes or hours they spend during that time. Although each session is editable, time spent during that category cannot be changed due to certain features .

Conclusion

In my experience, most apps that have this type of functionality is beneficial due to some individuals with zealous tendencies. Future functionalities may include a voice-command, but I believe this is unnecessary since the app is simple enough to navigate through. In conclusion, I think that myWorkDay is notably advantageous for employees who are struggling with time management and efficiency. By implementing a video-game like functionality while maintaining a well-designed user-interface, I believe that users will continue to utilize this marvelous app and hopefully improve their productivity.
