Summary
Created and designed a logo for the client, while utilizing this design to create a magazine cover mock-up for DeVry University Digital Imaging Fundamental course. Client was more than happy to provide additional pictures of her product to be included in the magazine cover.
Design Process
I did a variety of rough sketches and showed the client which one she liked best. She loved the peachy and pink color scheme but wanted a more retro theme. After the initial meeting, I started designing the logo using Adobe Illustrator to ensure that the image can be scaled without quality loss.
The logo was presented to the client and asked her permission to use this logo for a course project. She agreed and even offered me additional pictures to use for the project. However, the images she provided were too blurry, cropped, and fuzzy.
I used Adobe Photoshop to get rid of the noise in the image and took out the background of the cake, which is the primary model. The rest of the pictures were used as additional content for the magazine cover. Lastly, I retained the color scheme of the logo and used complementary colors for the font and background.
Conclusion
The project was well received by my professor and peers. In fact, this particular magazine cover mock-up is one of the examples used for future classes in DeVry University Digital Imaging Fundamental course. However, this artifact is far from perfect. I personally would pick out a font type and color scheme to ensure that the content is readable. I also believe that the cover is too crowded and would like to add more white space.
